The work at Jebel Ali involved the construction of the first of six planned runways for the Department of Civil Aviation’s long term strategic development project.
The 4500 metre runway and associated high speed taxiways can accommodate the largest commercial airliners. With a final surface layer of polymer modified asphalt, and a lighting and instrumentation system that meets Category 3b standards, the runway and associated infrastructure meet the highest international standards.
In addition to the main runway works, other key activities included major earthworks, secondary pavements, signing and markings, holding bays, Ground Support Equipment (GSE) roads and fire lanes. In parallel, a fully integrated underground network of core services was installed, including mains power, communications, drainage, and pressurised water, for domestic supply and fire protection. |
